Land Acknowledgement

As modern Anabaptists we are called to live our faith in action. We welcome and learn from all our neighbours and value a rich diversity in age, in orientation, in thought, in experience, and in belief of all those who choose to be part of our community. As core Anabaptist values, peace and justice compel us to engage in and commit to the work of reconciliation in our community and beyond. Palmer Becker shares three core Anabaptist values as follows: Jesus is the centre of our faith, community is the centre of our lives, and reconciliation is the centre of our work.

In the spirit of reconciliation, we honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, the Îyâxe Nakoda, Chiniki, Bearspaw, Goodstoney and Tsuut’ina Nations. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation within Alberta Districts 5 and 6. Finally, we acknowledge all Nations – Indigenous and non – who live, work and play on this land, and who honour and celebrate this territory.

We recognize that this land we live on is stolen land, and we take our call to reconciliation with the land and these peoples seriously. As we are all treaty peoples, we are called to honour the teachings of Treaty 7. We strive to live in a good way with each other as long as the grass grows, the river flows, and the wind blows.  We are grateful that this sacred gathering place provides us with an opportunity to engage in and demonstrate leadership on reconciliation. We commit to this work with humility and respect.
